In times of crisis, or just times of instability, it’s useful to reconnect to the larger world around us.  One of the ways you can do this is by reconnecting to the Three Realms. This is a pretty minimalist ritual. You’re welcome to add more candles, incense, music, or additional offerings as suits your preferences

At a minimum, you will need:

• Something for offerings – water will work well for this
• Something for the Well – a bowl or cup of water
• Something for the Tree – a flower, plant, rock, or bit of dirt
• Something for the Fire – a candle (electric if you can’t have flame)
• If you are doing the ritual indoors, you will need a bowl or something to pour the offerings into
• Cup of water or other beverage for the Waters of Life
• Some kind of tool for your omen

Assemble the above items in a way that pleases you.  I tend to put the plant in the center, with the candle on one side and the bowl of water on the other.  Please adjust to your preference.

Most of this ritual is designed to be spoken.  Directions are in square brackets.

RITUAL

We come here today to honor the Old Ones and connect to the Realms.

[Dip your fingers in the water and anoint yourself on your forehead. Pass your hand (high) over the flame and sweep the energy of the fire towards yourself.]

By Fire and Water, may I be purified. 

We call to the Earth Mother, who supports and sustains us as we stand here today in honor and praise.

[Make an offering of water for the Earth Mother]

May the Fires of the Heavens flow to us,

[Light the candle or make an offering to the Fire]

May the Waters of the earth flow to us,

[Dip your hand in the water]

May the Tree connect us,

[Anoint the tree or flower with water from the Well. If you have a stone or some dirt, sprinkle it with the water.]

May the Cosmos be whole!

Gatekeeper, we call to you
To aid in our rite and guard the gates.

May the Well be open as a Gate,

[Make a clockwise swirling motion with your hand near the Water]

May the Fire be open as a Gate,

[Make a clockwise swirling motion with your hand near the Candle]

May the Tree be open as a Gate,

[Make a clockwise swirling motion with your hand near the Plant/Flower/Dirt/Stone]

May the Gates be open!

[Clap your hands to signal that the Gates are open]

Ancestors,
You who came before,
You who shaped our bodies, hearts, and minds,
We call to you now.
Ancestors, we welcome You.

[Make an offering to the Ancestors]

Nature Spirits,
You who share this world with us,
You who inspire us,
We call to you now.
Nature Spirits, we welcome You.

[Make an offering to the Nature Spirits]

Shining Ones,
You who share your Blessings with us,
We call to you now.
Shining Ones, we welcome You.

[Make an offering to the Shining Ones]

We call to the Earth Mother,
You who are all around us,
You who connect us,
We call to you

[Make an offering to the Earth Mother]

Earth Mother, please accept this offering,
Given in piety, appreciation, and praise.
Earth Mother, we honor You.

[Make another offering to the Earth Mother]

Kindreds, we ask for your wisdom.

[Take the omen with your chosen form of divination]

[Hold the cup of drinking water, or hold your hand over it to Bless it]

Kindreds,
Gifts we have given, and Blessings we ask in return.
Earth Mother, Shining Ones, Nature Spirits, Ancestors,
Bless these waters so that we may accept your Blessings.

[You may choose to intone the names of the omens that you pulled into the water before you drink.]

[Drink the Blessed water]

[Working Begins]

[Settle yourself in front of your altar – sit if that is convenient for you, or stand if it’s not.]

[Hold the Well or cup your hands around it. Look into the water, knowing that you are looking into the Well that connects to the chthonic energies in the earth beneath us.]

Well of Wisdom, I honor you.

[Continue meditating on the Well for as long as it feels right.]

[When you are ready, replace the Well and cup your hands around the Fire and gaze into the flame.  Be careful not to burn yourself!  Know that you are looking into the Fire that connects us to the divine beings as we perceive them.]

Fire of Gods, I honor you.

[Continue meditating on the flame for as long as it feels right.]

[When you are ready, remove your hands from around the flame and cup the representation of the Tree with your hands.  Hold it if you can, or just cup your hands around it. Gaze softly upon the tree.  Know that this tree is connected to all the earth across time and space.]

Tree of the Worlds, I honor you.

[Continue meditating on the Tree for as long as it feels right.]

[When you are ready, replace your Tree or remove your hands from around it.]

[Reach one hand as high to the sky as you can, and the other hand as low to the ground as you can.  If you can’t move your arms much, turn your palms facing up and down. Feel the energy of the Fire of Gods and the Well of Wisdom flowing into your hands and mixing in your body.]

The Worlds flow through me.  I am connected to all the Worlds.

[Sit or stand with this visualization for a few minutes, or as long as it feels right.  Know that you are connected to all the Kindreds, and to all the Worlds, now and always.] 

[When you are ready, let your arms both drop to your sides, and let any excess energy flow away.]

Earth Mother, we thank you for joining us for this rite.

Shining Ones, Nature Spirits, Ancestors, we thank you for joining us in this rite.

Gatekeeper, we thank you for your service in this rite.

Let the Well become water.

[Make a counter-clockwise swirling motion near the Well]

Let the Fire become flame.

[Make a counter-clockwise swirling motion near the Fire]

Let the Tree be wood and leaves again.

[Make a counter-clockwise swirling motion near the Tree]

May the Gates be closed, yet may we always be connected.
